CASY uses Electronic Current Exclusion (ECE) technology. During measurement, each particle, nuclei or cell passing through the defined pore generates an electronic signal. The intensity correlates directly with their size and conductivity.
Electronic Current Exclusion means that CASY uses a frequency of 1 MHz for detection of cells passing the pore and integrates the signal over time of passage. As a result, CASY detects precisely the volume of cells, independent of their shapes.
Viability: Viable and Dying/Dead cells are detected with different volumes. Viable cells, with a polarized membrane generate a high resistance signal correlating with the full volume of the cell. Dying or dead cells display a much lower resistance due to their depolarized or fully disrupted cell membrane.
Aggregation correction: CASY provides a large dynamic measuring range, which ranges from small debris to even large aggregates of cells. Aggregates are detected precisely by their total cell volume which allows calculation of the number of single cells they include.
Flexibility: CASY can be used for a large variety of sample types including Bacteria, Yeast, Algae and Protozoa, Platelets, PBMC, various Mammalian, different StemCells and more. Additionally CASY can be customized to individual needs – please contact us for more details.
Reliability and Precision: Several thousands of cells detected in a single measurement in no time are the basis for CASY’s highest reproducibility and reliability. A major advantage of CASY is that debris and dead cells can be masked in the analysis by a simple cell line specific setup and only viable cells and their aggregates are considered.
