This kit is based on the quantitative measurement of extracellular reduction of the water soluble tetrazolium dye WST-1 [2-(4-Iodophenyl)-3-4 -nitrophenyl)-5-(2,4-disulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium sodium salt] to a water-soluble coloured formazan product by metabolically active cells.
