NGF-beta human rec.
As its name suggested, NGF is involved primarily in the growth, as well as the maintenance, proliferation, and survival of nerve cells (neurons). Mutations in this gene have been associated with hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy, type 5 (HSAN5), and dysregulation of this gene's expression is associated with allergic rhinitis. NGF subunits a and γ are members of the kallikrein family of serine proteases while the β subunit, called βNGF or 2.5S NGF, exhibits all the biological activities ascribed to NGF.
