[ID001] ID001 is a modification of E. B. Lewis's original formula for fruit fly larvae. This medium mimics the insect's normal food source and provides the necessary nutrition for growth and development of fruit fly larvae.

[ID003] Vanderzant Vitamin Mixture for insects is powdered form mixture of animal-derived component free 12 vitamins developed for use in insect cell culture.

[IM007] TC-100 is a modification done by Dr. Gardiner and Dr. Stockdale of the original formulation of Grace's insect medium. Sucrose, fructose and several Kreb's cycle intermediates were omitted from the original formula. IM007 contains L-glutamine and does not require supplementation with insect hemolymph. It is a fully defined medium and does not require supplementation with insect hemolymph. Instead, tryptose broth and fetal bovine serum provide the necessary growth factors. This medium supports the growth of several lepidopteran cell lines including Spodoptera frugiperda. It is specifically used for production of baculoviruses in lepidopteran cell lines.

[IM008] TNM-FH medium is a modification of Grace's insect medium. The modification was developed by Dr. W. F. Hink to grow Cabbage looper cell line TN-368. Presently, this medium is used to grow cells derived from a variety of lepidopterans species. IM008 is supplemented with lactalbumin hydrolysate and yeast extract. Lactalbumin hydrolysate provides a large number of free amino acids. Yeast extract serves as a source of vitamins. Supplemented with 5-20% fetal bovine serum this medium supports growth of number of insect cell lines derived from Lepidopteran species.

[IML001] Grace's Insect medium is a modification of the original formula developed by Wyatt. Grace(1962) improved the medium by introducing ten water soluble vitamins in Wyatt's formula. Grace successfully established four strains of cells from ovarian tissue of Australian emperor gum moth using this medium. IML001 can be used to culture cells derived from a variety of insects especially Lepidopterans and some species of Dipterans. It does not contain L-glutamine. Presently, the medium is supplemented with 5-20% fetal bovine serum.
